Maharashtra Politics - Is it end of Sena in Maharashtra

With the recent turmoil in the post poll political situation in Maharashtra, Shiv Sena literally showed all its tantrums that led to BJP deciding to step back from forming the government at state level.  Hell, no this is not the defeat of BJP or win-win situation for Congress, NCP & Shiv Sena for that matter.  BJP will still be very strong through the tenure that the newly wed coalition will perform (as I doubt that they would complete 5 years).

With 102 seats in the State Assembly, BJP that fought on 120+ seats is still comfortably the largest party in the state assembly followed by NCP, Shiv Sena and Congress for that matter.  The ambition of Shiv Sena to lead the government with Chief Minister being a Shiv Sainik will do nothing good to the overall agenda of Shiv Sena.  the ideologies of the three parties are totally different and they don't match anywhere.  This in a way will pave the way for the three parties towards suicidal march that only NCP might be able to thwart.

The coalition dharma would vanish within first 6 months and infightings on ideology would start. We would see that the CM from Shiv Sena might not be able to perform as other major positions would be held by NCP while my take on Congress would be of outside support.  This is where BJP would have its fun at the price of this coalition of jokers.

It is already interesting that Ajit Pawar who is touted as the Deputy Chief Minister is already under ED and CBI lens, please search it on the net and you would get good enough reasons for that.  This means in a way Ajit Pawar would be under there radar anyways and that might create additional pressure on the Government footed by the coalition.

In short, the overall coalition would be something that is bound to fail and provide better situation for BJP in the forthcoming elections in 2024 where Maharashtra would pave the way for strengthening BJPs overall score in the LS as well as RS for that matter.

Abrogating Article 370 – Legal Evaluation

Abrogating Article 370 is not something that the present Government of India (GOI) decided just at the tap of a hammer. It was much calculated and much weighed option by the Think Tank behind the execution of this step. Many of the people have marked this whole process as hasty decision by the Government after Pakistan's Prime Minister Imran Khan had a meeting with US President Donald Trump. In the press conference following the meeting the US President Donald Trump referred to some discussion between him and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi about Mediation for peace in Kashmir. This however would not be the case as we evaluate the steps by GOI.

We would also evaluate the legality of the Abrogation of Article 370 as well as Article 35A as there are almost 17 Petitions filed in the Supreme Court of India challenging the legality of the Abrogation of said articles through a Presidential Decree. But before that a brief history of Article 370 and Article 35A

Article 370 was adoption to the Constitution of India on October 17, 1949, almost 2 years after the Treaty of Accession was signed (October 26, 1947). This adoption was identified temporary in nature and provided autonomous status to the State of Jammu & Kashmir that included Ladakh, Jammu, Kashmir (including POK) as well as Gilgit Baltistan. This article became operative on November 17, 1952 while the Constitution of India was not yet adopted until 1956.

Article 35 A was added to the Constitution of India on 14 May 1954 through a Presidential Decree, -The Constitution Order, 1954, Applicable to Jammu and Kashmir. This discriminating article created the divide between Residents of Jammu and Kashmir as in 1947 v/s the refugees who migrated from Pakistan during the partition as well as the people from Valmiki Samaj who were brought to Jammu and Kashmir to do "menial" jobs. This article ensured that the later set of people are marked as "non-citizens" of state of Jammu and Kashmir with No rights at state level including jobs as well as Voting rights.

So, with regards to the Article 35 A, introduced by a Presidential Order and revoked / Abrogated through another Presidential Order, the legality doesn't;t make sense as neither the GOI followed Parliamentary Process then nor was it required on August 5, 2019 when it was abrogated.

That now brings us back to Article 370, abrogation of which is causing all the Noice in Parliament as well as Media by the opposition Parties as well as certain Opinions published across the Indian and Global Web and Print Media. For an evaluation of the Abrogation of Article 370, we review the now Abrogated clauses of Article 370, the article could not have been abrogated without the acceptance from the Legislative Assembly of Jammu and Kashmir, but the GOI did it. How did the GOI do that if the legality of the whole case can be questioned and when we have the Supreme Court that may review such passage of an Act in the Parliament. We know that if the Supreme Court would find the step to be illegal, there would be a Constitutional Disaster in the country including a defacement for the current Government. This calls for a review and evaluation of the pre-curser of the event with regards to Jammu and Kashmir -
  1. Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) supporting a Government with People's Democratic Party (PDP) and getting the detailed information on the overall Electoral base of PDP. With this step, BJP also ensured that PDP gets isolated from Indian National Congress (Congress) as well as National Conference (NC)
  2. Background legal evaluation begins for abrogation of Article 370 under the then one Minister of India
  3. BJP and PDP have a fallout, the state Legislative Assembly is dissolved and President's Rule is invoked in Jammu and Kashmir
  4. Over a period of time the legal reviews are completed and strategy is formed to Abrogate Article 370
  5. During its second term, under Narendra Modi led BJP Government, a bill is introduced in Parliament on the Reservation for Jobs in Jammu and Kashmir. Very aptly the rights of state Legislative Assembly are conferred to the Governor of the State, which most of the Opposition leaders do not oppose as the said bill was on "Reservation"
  6. Once the Governor of State gets the rights of State Legislative Assembly, President doesn't have to then look for elected representatives forming the Legislative Assembly constituents and recommendation of the Governor is good enough as the recommendation of State Legislative Assembly
  7. Governor of Jammu and Kashmir recommends Abrogation of Article 370 and a Presidential Order is issued to this effect
  8. Bill is presented in the Parliament for Bifurcation of Jammu and Kashmir into two Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh. This is passed by both the houses with required 2/3rd majority. Done deal, Constitutional process followed and adhered to
Now the above seven steps if evaluated and if understood would render any such petition as a mislead interpretation of the overall process and the two bills that paved the way to Abrogate Article 370. GOI achieved what it wanted to and to ensure better development in the region as well as counter the terrorism by limiting the trouble area.

The Indian Auto Industry

News about the negative growth of Indian Auto Industry is making rounds and fuel to fire has been provided by the 81 year veteran Mr. Bajaj too.  The economists as well as media houses are repeatedly covering the topic in the light of the GOI vision of "India being $ 5 trillion economy by 2024". Indeed the trends are negative for the Auto Industry, but did anyone relook at the reasons for this negative trend?

Things with respect to the Auto prices and maintenance have not been making much sense.  On an average if we calculate the per month cost of owning a four wheeler, we would drive at following breakdown:-

Assumptions - Car Cost - Rs. 500,000; Interest Rate - 9%; Loan Term - 5 years; Avg Distance traveled per day - 100kms; Avg Fuel Cost/ltr - Rs. 77
  1. Monthly EMI for the Car Loan - Rs. 10,380
  2. Avg Monthly Fuel Cost - Rs. 11,550
  3. Car insurance premium - Rs. 10,000 (Yearly approximated)
  4. Yearly Maintenance - Rs. 25,000 (Considering various conditions of traffic and weather)
  5. Total Yearly expenditure to maintain a car - Rs. 298,160
  6. Monthly expenditure - Rs. 24,847 or Rs. 833/day
Apart from the major heads mentioned above, many housing societies in many cities charge separate for Covered / Street parking and that certainly adds up to the overall cost of owning a four wheeler. Now, with the availability of Ola's and Uber's in various cities, if the cost of this transit per day is less than Rs. 833/day, why would anyone go ahead and buy a Car or an SUV? It would certainly not make sense to do that specifically if he buyer is NOT getting any value added perks emanating from the "Innovation" by the manufacturer.  This highlights the another GAP that's hitting the Indian Auto Industry - Lack of Innovation!!

If we look around in the Indian Auto Industry, the would find that the Indian Auto Industry has nothing new to offer to its customers.  Except for the change in external look and feel of the vehicles, most of the times we don't find any new feature that would stand out for a Car. Indian Auto Industry basically Fails to work on the Aesthetics of Auto Engineering and most of the models available use legacy technologies rather than anything new.  While we see that the world is moving towards Electric Cars featuring Autonomous Driving or Cognitive Intelligence for Collision Avoidance, we seldom see any such initiative with Indian Auto Industry.  India is Still waiting for TESLA to be launched in India (expected in 2020) while another electric car has been introduced by Kia (reportedly blasted during charging). The first of few models (4) by Tata Motor would laugh in 2021, while the Government is eyeing more Electric Vehicles to be plying on the roads of India to reduce carbon footprint of India as well as reduce the reliance of the country on  Petroleum products.

So, going by the current aspects of both Economics (Household Budget) as well as Technology (preference of car ownership) I do not see the Auto Industry coming out of this slowdown unless there is a radical innovation pumped in and the average cost of ownership is Brough down drastically.  It is quite visible that the Cost of plying a Car / SUV for meagre 3000 kms/month is higher than the cost of buying that Car/SUV; certainly that is one of the deterrents for the buyer and needs attention and focus of Auto Manufacturer.  Government on the other side must focus on the Development of Infrastructure that would help them increase usage of Electric Vehicles and for that they may go in for Public-Private model; for only Private model would increase "For Profit" charge points for Electric Vehicles and diminish the benefits for the consumer.

H4 Visa - A Fresh Debate

I was reviewing the H4 Visa updates and the last update is when the US government for once again updated the court on revoking the H4 EAD.  Once again the time-line provided is for 3 months and the next update is due on November 19.

In the whole case, Save Jobs USA has been asserting on an early judgement on the case. The case that they highlight here is that the H4-EAD is hurting their job opportunities.  Does that stand a ground is the question here.  I will sight out a few cases that I have observed and that I have encountered in the industry where the Jobs are identified as getting impacted -

  1. One Network Administrator who was working with this company reached that position based on how the situations were handled by that person over a period of time. The total years of experience was 35 at age of 66 and the relevant experience was 6 years.  Education background  - high school pass with CCNA certification.  out of 6 years of relevant experience, the person in consideration was handling a store network for 3 years and based on the successful handling of the store network, gets moved to handle the Corporate Network.  A review of the overall work provides quite an interesting update - none of the older network rules ever get removed, just new rules get added and the routing rules grow over a period of time.  No route rationalization and not route updates.  This person was aligned with an H4 EAD holder for Network modernization and the H4 EAD is a Computer Science Graduate, 10 years of experience of Network Administration with CCNP certification in tow.  The case become aggravated as this Network Administrator starts with Social Media stating his job is in Danger due to a H4 EAD situation.  The question here is - How is the job in danger? is it due to the lack of knowledge in the field or lack of understanding of the overall technology?
  2. One Security Administrator, Veteran at age 58 years, 32 years of experience, only 5 years experience of Information Security, In-charge of firewalls.  An H4 EAD was hired to work with the Security Administrator to help with Next Generation Firewalls and UTM devices. Starts showing the concern of Job loss due to the overall situation of H4 EAD. Why??
  3. One 70 year old Contract Employee assisting the Organization for SoX Compliance, put under an H4 EAD along with other Compliance Analysts to move the overall Organizational Compliance Efforts under Unified Compliance Framework. Shows dissent and fear of Job loss. Where and Why??
There are similar other cases tons of them, where the main hue and cry round Job loss is more of a concern rather than actual case.  The whole situation is boiling out to be what it is because of the availability of higher skilled resources who right now are untapped due to the way Visa is constructed. Consider it that there still is a deficiency of high skilled resources in the field of IT and Cyber Security.  Consider that by 2020, the Demand and Supply gap for the Cyber Security Professionals would grow to almost a million and I the organizations are not going to address that gap by tapping the available pool of resources trapped under the condition of H4 Visa, there would be serious repercussions.

Consider that skills are not something that are grow with age, it is important to have that exposure to the latest and best knowledge source and the capability to absorb it at the right time.  Not just in IT, but in other professions too, tapping the right skills is an important requirement for organization success.

My Question to Save Job USA is - Why don't you bring the Manufacturing jobs back to USA? When Most of the products available in US markets are produced in other countries, doesn't that hurt the US Jobs and US economy?

I support the Buy American motive as I believe that would boost the economy with more employment being created locally.

My request to the Save Jobs USA would be to address the concern holistically rather than just being aggressive against just a high skilled resource pool that was being brought out to the mainstream and support the US business and economy.

Amritsar Dussehra Tragedy

With my deepest condolences to the lives lost and the families who suffered due to the loss of their near and dear ones, I would like to call out for action against the Organizers as well as the Local and District Administration who should be held responsible for the tragedy.

Though the leading media reports are highlighting the cause of tragedy to be "the train running over the people celebrating Dussehra"  specifically the way headlines on Economic Times read - Train runs over people celebrating Dussehra near Amritsar, over 60 dead. How irresponsible is that to simply sensationalize the news and implicate the railway department to this tune.

Did anyone ever think about the following aspects:
  1. Why didn't organizers take safety measures to create fencing around the location of Celebration to ensure that crowd doesn't spill over the Railway tracks?
  2. Why did Administration not deploy security personnel near the Railway tracks to ensure that crowd doesn't spill over the Railway tracks?
  3. Why didn't organizers and administration inform the railway officials to ensure that they could issue caution notice to the train drivers and deploy a 20-40 rule while crossing the celebration area?
From what I reviewed on the videos available, I couldn't place the responsibility of accident on the Railway department as I found it to be the total mismanagement by the Organizers and the Local as well as District Administration teams.

One more thing that I would like to highlight is the Law that prohibits Walking, Crossing or doing anything on Railway tracks that is the property of the Railway department.  It is a punishable offense to either stand, sit, cross or walk on the railway tracks.  So, certainly, Railway Department is NOT responsible for the tragedy from the perspective I look at.

It indeed is a saddening misshape that cause loss of valuable human life and it would require a lot of understanding and common sense to prevail.  Media also should behave responsible to not write headlines that would prove to be provocative in this case.

One headline that can be called a responsible reporting -

Overall, action must be taken against the Organizing committee as well as the Local and District Administration to this effect for their responsibilities. It is their failure that lead to this tragedy and that cause loss valuable human life.

Concepts of Marketing - Types or Forms

Marketing is such a broad topic to cover in today's world that there is absolute confusion between the types / form of Marketing Strategy that is adopted by the corporates.  It is interesting as well as annoying to see masses resorting to common definitions for the various types of Marketing.  Interesting because they are naive to understand the difference and annoying because it may hurt the business sentiments.

It therefore is very important and critical for the Marketers to define the boundaries and explain the difference. They need to be savy about taking this training and awareness to the masses in one or other form.  It is important that they educate the masses between the difference and remove that commonality from the definition perspective.

With this article, I am trying to instigate that process to help marketers create that awareness drive for the masses to understand the difference between the most common Marketing Strategies that corporates use: viz - Reseller Marketing; Direct Marketing; Multi-Level Marketing; Pyramid Marketing. The terms used are some of the commonly misunderstood aspects of marketing.

Reseller Marketing: The form of Marketing that follows a Wholesale to Retail Chain of Command that can be a Multi-Level or Pyramid from the perspective of Geographical Territories as may be defined and distributed by the Corporate.  This type of Marketing Strategies require large quantities to be ordered, processed, stored and exchange multiple hands before reaching the final consumer.  The reason I have categorized this into Multi-level / Pyramid marketing because in this right from the Origin of the Product to Final Consumer the product moves from following layers -
a.) Company
b.) Distributor
c.) Wholesaler
d.) Retailer
Now, it is important to note that Right from the Company to Retailer, it forms Multiple Layers as well as Pyramid, with the Company making the most margin and Retailer making the least margin.  The Money and product have reverse path where product moves from Company to Distributor to Wholesaler to Retailer to Consumer, whereas Money movers in reverse form.  However, be cautious that there is a chance of Duplicate products getting introduced in the lot with negative customer sentiments hurting the company due to quality issues in the duplicate products.

Direct Marketing: This is probably considered as the unconventional marketing route as in this case the company cuts out every and every layer between them and the consumer.  Certainly, the profit maximization works for the company and the company is able to pass on that cost arbitrage to the Consumer either directly or indirectly. The way this marketing initiative is organized and used is pretty subjective to perception, but the corporates who have actually implemented this in near perfect form, have made fortune.  No doubts, the ghost of being Unconventional has always haunted this form of Marketing and the way the Cost arbitrage has been passed on to the consumers have been questioned multiple times.  For instance, the referral bonuses paid for successful conversions have often been referenced with negative marketing gimmicks. But one thing needs to be noted for Direct Marketing - You could be a Reseller or Reference Provider, but the Company ships product directly to the consumer with company liability for any order processing/storage/shipment/payment etc. Unlike Direct Marketing, the money doesn't flow from consumer to retailer to wholesaler to distributor to company.  Chances of Duplicity and Poor Quality is ruled out to a large extent with a Direct channel between the company and the consumer. Direct Marketing's success is more from the enablement to consume and sell rather than hire/recruit resellers

Multi-Level-Marketing: This could be either Reseller Marketing or Direct Marketing, but the thin line that separates it from the Direct Marketing initiative is - In Direct Marketing there is no concept of Recruitment for the downline reseller.  There is a choice of being a Reseller based on one's interest and wish to succeed; a Direct Marketer would certainly not want to reduce one's margin by recruiting a downline reseller.  However, in Multi-Level-Marketing there indeed is a Recruitment aspect hidden somewhere in the overall business theme.  Recruit and build a team to expand the business.  This turns out to be the similar aspect as the Reseller Marketing with top level running the whole chain as his kingdom.  Success at the top depends on how many have been recruited by the guys down below. Sales is an after-effect.

Pyramid Marketing: I tried to put my mind behind this aspect, but haven't really been able to understand this from the core marketing perspective.  What I have seen in this case of marketing is Top is heavy with Profits and the lower ranks are heavier with the overall sales numbers.  From where  I see this one, how-much-ever one would sell, the most benefit would be for the guy at the top.  Not something that see a long term success and not something where the downstream businesses stay for a longer term.

General Elections 2019 - India

Indian Political system has picked up the momentum towards the General Elections 2019.  It is very interesting that every political party is geared towards ensuring that the current ruling party in Center is defeated and for that purpose all the coalitions are being considered.  Though the main coalitions that exist today standing against BJP led coalition NDA is UPA, but we may see a few more from the regional perspective and then combining them on central perspective.  This could be a good development only if the voters / citizens are benefited and the coalition parties work together towards progress of the country.

Though I have my reservation that the mismatched coalitions would not sustain the test on the floor for their ideologies differ and the only things that's bringing them together is the motive to defeat BJP led NDA.  To be successful, there always is a need for mapping the ideologies and goals that are constructive and positive in nature, negative goals certainly don't help.  In politics, the typical understanding that "My Opposition's Opposition is on My Side" doesn't necessarily work.

From where the situation needs to be assessed and the way social media particularly is buzzing with anti-BJP sentiments with all the sorts of negative news being highlighted, the current opposition parties are not helping themselves to garner the votes. They actually are aligning on the negative axis, and the young voters of India do understand the Two negatives not necessarily align to get one positive.  Anti-BJP sentiments would trigger BJP highlighting its good work and the positives the it has brought to the economy and the way nation got benefitted with whatever BJP did.  Now, at this juncture, it certainly would be the progressive aspects highlighted that would garner more votes and the feel that if a party in Particular has done so much in so short a timespan, then that party should be in the center to take the nation forward.

On the contrary, the negative campaign being run by the opposition would harm them only for they are not stating what they would do in this case and How would they make things better in the areas where they are trying to highlight the lack of governance oversight by BJP - the current ruling party.  The time has gone when we used to think on one stream and may be there are still a few who think or act on those lines like Religious divide and caste based approach.  The current generation thinks more positively and in constructive manner and looks at the 360 degree rather than having myopic view on the negative sentiments.

In reality, need of the time is to unite for the progress of India. Even if the Opposition fails the floor test, they needs to unite for Constructive Criticism and not for the negative criticism as they are involved right now.  What we see at present is negative criticism with no suggestion on how to better things; they are just focused on why the things are wrong, not where things can be better. As state earlier, this would not help them win the general elections in 2019.

On the other side, BJP would need to ensure that it reaches out to its cadres across the states and teaches the to behave responsibly so the the negative news is no more available.  There is a need to address the negative news right where is could generate rather than trying to curb it once it has generated.  Social Media is very strong and reality can traverse faster than not along with the Rumor Monger news.

Legacy of Indian Media

Press or News Media, the way we should address it now a days is considered to be the Fourth Pillar or Democracy.  But, looking at Indian Media it so feels like it is another Ponzi Drama Organization bringing in one or another distasteful Ponzi news to us.  Today they show what gets them better TRP; why better TRP, because better TRP means more advertisement business as better TRP would mean better viewer reach.

Lets take a look at the recent news that they have been covering -

1. Congress demanding Fair and reasonable treatment to Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau
2. Untimely death of first female superstar from Indian movies

What Indian media covered in the above news is the way Narendra Modi government gave a cold shoulder to the Canadian counterpart, but then failed to cover WHY? Interesting because that WHY was not as sensational news as it would ensure that Narendra Modi government is actually applauded for that.  Until the Canadian as well as International media started covering it from the perspective of Failed visit of the Canadian PM.

Yes, the visit of Canadian PM to India was treated in the manner it should have been treated.  Canadian PM stood with forces demanding Khalistan and the forces that would want to divide India.  More so, he had mentioned that the protest by the Khalistan supporters was in-line with the Canadian Laws....Did I hear that as political appeasement of the vote bank that now matters a lot in Canadian politics?

What Mr. Justin Trudeau missed that sovereignty of India is prime for Indian Prime Minister and he as well as Indian citizens would never tolerate anyone who supports separatists on this or any other land.  The treatment meted out was perfect and had the right effect with the World media excluding Indian media was actually saying absolutely the same - "Failed India Visit of Canadian Prime Minister".  Only the Indian media was engaged in shaming the government and broadcasting the demand of Congress leaders on giving adequate honor to the Canadian Prime Minister.  Well, adequate or not is not sure, but he got appropriate honor that aligned with his policy towards Khalistan and Khalistanies.

On death of the famous yesteryears star from Indian movies, the Media - one and all, actually were engaged in voyeuristic, ghoulish and insensitive coverage. The way they handled the overall news and the way they blew it out of proportion is really insane.  The representations, the language and the tone used was really one of the worst reporting standard that I have ever witnessed that too involving a news on death.  I am surprised the amount of research they did, the amount of conspiracy theories they came out with and the amount of versions of the same case went out as a story.  It was sounding as if every of the news anchor is narrating some piece of drama story.

By all the perspectives I looked at or pondered over the two stories, it just reaffirmed to me that the Indian Media is going down the trend of responsible organizations and are headed to make the mulla by hook or crook.  Moreover, they sound more to be the political mouth piece of one or political outfit or political party.

Most of the Media groups have lost their creditability in current context as most of them have forgotten to praise the good efforts of the government and are inclined to highlight only the misses, or the negative points, even if there is NO merit in them.

Another typical case is of the petrol prices in South Asia where Business Standard is still stating that the petrol prices are costliest in India. Now this is a clearly a false statement as Indian media missed the bus that there are other sites also that provide more accurate information to us including the GlobalPetrolprices.com that published the latest rates on February 26, 2018 and are accessible at https://www.globalpetrolprices.com/benchmark/

So, am sure the legacy of Indian Media has changed a big time from where they started as the front line fourth pillar to where they are doing the dirty laundry of the Political Organizations or trying to mint money by sensationalization of the news.

Reality Check for Indians and India

This is my second article on this topic, previous one being "Indian Education System - Needs to be Overhauled" published on June 20, 2013.

The previous article and this one establishes that I have always been a critic of the Indian Education system with British Foundation in it and have always echoed that the India Education system needs to be revived from where it is today to where it was before the Foreign Attacks destroyed the then prevailing India Education system.  Gone and Forgotten are the days when India was the hub of Education with the revered universities like Takshashia and Nalanda were the prime Universities for education and had invited the best and the brightest from across India.  Now, the Indian Education system is nothing but a system that encourages rat race rather than promoting vocational practices.

This article titled "Indians study hard and get MBA, may be buy Mercedes but lack creativity: Apple co-founder Steve Woz" based on Steve Wozniak's (Apple fame) opinion relates a lot to that. I actually came across this on an FB post by a Friend Dr. Vivek Kaul and then the discussion where Dr. Kaul and one of his friend Jayati Roy exchange interesting notes.

In the FB article reference above, Dr. Kaul writes "Very few people would have worked & interacted with hundred of nationalities as I have. One of my sole reasons for this is to understand what keeps India n Indians from breaking into the big league. I thought I had worked with almost all nationalities till this Saturday when a nurse at the hospital declared she is from Reunion Island ! Stumped by her looping googley I left everything down to go to Google n know Reunion Island is a Country between Mauritius & Madagaskar with its own mini melting pot of Africans Chinese Indian & French!"

How true that we, who have worked with people of multiple nationality still get stumped by the way we get to hear about a new nation that is as tiny as may be one city in India.  Now, why is that? just because our dear education system in India is not interested to teach us the global aspects and is very much limited to the doctrine on which Britishers established it.

Dr. Kaul further writes - "let me go back to this Steve Pundit who rightly thinks Indians are not creative .
He is from Polish extraction whose forefathers must have left Poland to escape poverty as have majority of half a million Poles in UK - coming after joining the Super Welfare Club of EU in 2004 !

When you escape poverty from third world conditions , you are not exactly creative in the Einstein or Chaplin mould! Vast majority of his compatriot Poles in the UK are not exactly creative as Woznaic expects Indians to be!

Majority of Polish citizens in Great Britain are in building industry as builders , plumbers , electricians or in hospitality sector as Cleaners, waiters etc etc - not exactly a creative enterprise ! They are doing these dead end jobs to escape the high unemployment rate & poverty - exactly the same scenario from which Indians are escaping with better degrees to the West or other countries incl Middle East .
Indians are better than Woznaik's Polish cousins tho !

Indians earn much more than expat Polish manual workers with a PAYE - tax deducted at source income unlike cash in hand income of Polish workers! People have always immigrated mainly for economic or prosecution reasons - lets not kid ourselves. Irish, Jews, Dutch, & vast South East Asian immigrants all fit this bill.

Third world immigration is mainly due to same reasons .

Now coming to the other reasons of lack of creativity! Foundation of your character is laid in your primary school & home country environment!"

Indeed the last portion of the statement above refers to the lack of creative culture in Indian Education system.  Right form the childhood we are taught only limited amount that would work to make us either an Engineer (to do repetitive jobs), a Doctor, a clerk or something on the similar lines.  I remember a case where due to the geographical incline, one particular piece of construction was getting damaged at a particular height.  The Project Engineer reviewed the scenario and revised the design (thinking in a creative manner) and the structure got the strength required as there as a curve introduced.  Interestingly, that was not honored and that Project Engineer was alleged of malpractice and he hence resigned from job.  The management of the organization was least concerned about the good work done, but was more concerned that the structures revised architecture increased the cost. How funny or should I actually call it tragic??

Taking another example where creative thinking is culled by Indian Education system - A student never wanted to be an engineer or a doctor, he wanted to be an artist. Though he was academically an ace of his batch, he was more inclined in theatre, but the peer pressure and the pressure from his teachers went on so much that he had to give in to prove that he excels in studies forgetting his theatre dream. Thanks to the Education System to this effect.  If it would have been an education institute in west, as Dr. Kaul refers in his words - "Primary school education is a revelation in the West. It is in the most friendly atmosphere that western kids are nurtured by an army of happy smiling teachers & teaching assistants. No home work is ever provided & no test given for next class admission. Everyone eats the same decent State provided food. Stories are read by actors like teachers with differing voices to suit the story characters amongst the giggles or hush of boys & girls. Small kind gestures are rewarded - if a kid helped other with shoe laces or in an English lesson! Assembly hall is told Joshua was very kind to Simon and he helped him with his heavy rucksack  Well done Joshua. You are a Star. Joshua thinks he can conquer the world. The idea is to make each boy or girl by turns proud of themselves. This lays a excellent foundation to their future. Cramming is deplored & as said end of the term exams do not take place & you are automatically promoted to the next. Equal emphasis is on music games & arts." Alas!! In India that is just one long forgotten case!!

Jayati Roy adds her opinion on Dr. Kaul's article as - "Our education system sadly does not allow the children to pursue their own dreams and interests. We are obsessed with churning out more doctors, engineers and lawyers than nurturing innovative skills in our children. The need to survive and earn takes over the dreams of excelling in other fields of knowledge and arts. Most parents do not encourage their children to think on their own but impose their own unfulfilled dreams and goals which builds up as huge pressure on the child and he shuts the world of imagination and creativity and starts working on realising his parents wishes. Failure is not tolerated and comparisons with other children make it more worse . the government education policy is also a big hurdle. They have never invested in such an important area and we have a huge number of graduates and literates whose main objective is to earn money and nothing else!. With a population of 1.2 billion, it is more about doing a job amidst high corruption and caste reservations that take up the mindset than to compete globally in innovative skills and knowledge.  You have rightly observed that unlike the west we hunt for talent in the university level and not in the primary school level stage. I entirely agree with you that the battles of third world nations override the need for bringing the best of the creative skills and knowledge in to the global platform."

Indeed she has read the article by Dr. Kaul in all the right perspective and related to the overall truth exposed by Dr. Kaul.

What is the crux of the matter - Indian Education system as highlighted by Woz and then elaborated by Dr. Kaul as well as Jayati Roy, needs to be revisited.  Focus on Vocational Trainings need to be emphasized. "Catch them Young" needs to be the success criteria as creativity can be seen in a child right when they start playing with Lego's or start fidgeting with the musical instruments in their childhood.  It is important to encourage them right at the time they get out from their Diapers and start wearing those pajama suits to go to bed.  Need is to encourage.

India, a country of a billion plus doesn't have the lack of skills or talent, but indeed has a lack of mentors. There is a dearth of those who would step up to encourage Risk Taking behavior to try something new and something creative.  It indeed is an open secret for the world that Indians in the West are more creative and more Risk Taking race than any other one, then why not just in India? Simple answer is the Rat Race being promoted by the Indian Education System that qualifies success by the academic brilliance for Fat Pay Check rather than a meaningful occupation with inner peace!!!

India @ 70 - Part 2

Since this part is more about the political scenario in India, I will post most parts in Hindi. To start with, I will state a story that I received in a chat group and will follow with some pointers from there-on.

India @ 70 - Part 1

With yet another Independence Day celebration on August 15, 2017, India and the Indians were jubilant over the typical hash tag - India at 70. Nationalists were all in for the praise of the present government, while the liberals were causing all the hue and cry around the misses and messes in the political scenario.

But in the whole turn, the nation seems to have forgotten the incident of August 11, 2017 when almost 70 new borns went to definite permanent sleep in the State of Uttar Pradesh.  When we look at the question why?, the obvious answer from any government agency, minister or legislature would be lack of oxygen cylinder supply.  Liberals would target government over it and the government would highlight the failures of the previous government in setting up the right process.  In short, the actual cause for the case would get overshadowed with blames and counter blames.  But, what needs to be looked at the bureaucratic approach that caused the acute shortage of life saving supply to a Government Hospital.

The Supplier agency was sending reminder alerts to the hospital for delayed unpaid invoices, but no one was there in the bureaucratic chain to heed to those alerts. In the mean time the contract of the supplier gets over and he stops supply of the Oxygen Cylinders, so that makes it much grave a situation than it could have been.  Ultimately the impact was on the lives of those who were to still see the world, they rather saw the cruelty way ahead of the time they could have.  They became the posthumous witness of the entire episode. Many of them leaving the world without may be getting a name by which we shall have said the prayers for their souls to attain the peace.

But, is this the first such case in the Medical Industry in India?  Is this the only case that has been reported and has made some splash in the political corridors as well as media?  The answer probably is Yes, because in recent times this is the most grievous incident that we have witnessed.  But going back in the history of Indian Government Medical History, there are probably more that should teach us a lesson or two:
  1. Case of the medicine supply where the doctor in charge goes missing after being identified as the culprit and master mind behind the nexus that diverted hospital supplies to private nursing homes and pharmacists. He is declared dead, but the nexus created by him was still being run that certainly he controlled from his abode away from where the cops would have looked for him.  With adequate political backing by the then ruling government, he was well covered, but finally gets caught  and sentenced - Case from Uttar Pradesh
  2. Case of counterfeit / fake drugs being supplied to the Government hospitals by the suppliers while diverting the original to the pharmacists at lower prices and make mullah on both ends.  high profile government officials as well as politicians involved in the racket - Case from multiple states in India, Specifically to highlight - Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Orissa & Maharashtra. Modus Operandi is so neat that only the middle man are caught and then the case gets into the cold basket with no headway.  This still happens and the common man suffers.
  3. Case of multiple murders across India for opposing the above practices; culprit gets off as only the offender gets caught and gets a max punishment of Life imprisonment (14 or 20 years). In many cases, the offender gets out way ahead and lives a normal life.  Forget the justice for the political backing for the main culprits and the offenders.

So, if we look at the state of Affairs in the Medical Arena, there is a lot of corruption that has marred the medical supply affair.  What is needed is to clean this malpractice and uproot the corruption in the medical supply chain model.  Unless Government, Media and the public acts to end it, India @ 70 would still be immature Baby rather than a grown up nation.

Catching up on UP Elections

Five states in India underwent Assembly elections earlier this month and the results were not too encouraging for the opposition parties.  The current ruling party BJP won with clear majority in two states - Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand where as with some support formed Government in Manipur and Goa. The only state they lost elections is Punjab, the state where it so seems that anti-incumbancy wave against Akali Dal took toll on the election results with Congress (INC) winning majority of seats there.  Interesting though that INC could save that one state to get some grace marks.

However, Indian media is all gong ho about the results in the northern state of Uttar Pradesh that can actually define the results of 2019 Lok Sabha Elections.  The specific wave that is getting built once again is the "20% Muslim" voters in Uttar Pradesh not getting a Muslim representative. How interesting it is that the Pseudo Literates and Pseudo Liberals of India are amazed on "How can BJP gain such a massive support in Uttar Pradesh when they didn't field a single Muslim candidate?" They totally overlook the major swing that BJP saw in the eastern state of Manipur where they won 21 seats starting from 0 from the last assembly elections.  Though this may not seem to be a swing in favor of BJP per say, but somewhere it may be a swing resounding the support for Nation's Government lead by Mr. Modi.

I am not sure how literate are the Pseudo Literates in the country that when they open their mouth, they can only talk about the religious divide. Incidentally, these Pseudo Literates try to impose that they are nations' voice. They forget that the News Channel where they think they are being invited and where they would spew their venom on caste and religion, doesn't have a viewership of 2% from where it was a leader. Indeed, I am talking about NDTV and the show that was hosted by Vikram Chandra.  I just watched it for 2 minutes in between my channel surfing and boom, all I could hear was religious divide. As I said, these Pseudo Literates seem to have forgotten that it was the Central Government that spoke about the honor of women including the Muslim Women and it was they who spoke against the inequality prevailing in the Muslim communities where women is treated more like a slave than a family member.  It was the voice against triple talaq that made the difference for the Muslim women who thought at last someone is taking their side.  It doesn't matter whether someone supporting them was Hindu or Muslim, for them it was someone who spoke about their dignity and that's what seems to have swung the votes of Muslim voters in favor of BJP and BJP won even those seats which were dominated by Muslim voters.

I am not sure how and and when these simple and easy to understand points would be learned by the Pseudo Literates and not sure when they would be able to rise above the Religion and Caste business.    Also, I am not sure when the 80% result swing could be seen with 4 out of 5 states voting for BJP, why are these pseudo liberals stuck only to results in one state?

Ah, and before I close this topic rather than stretching, I recalled the Behenji was so hurt that she point at the EVMs favoring BJP (were the EVMs also Religious?) and then The greatest comedian of our times picked up to be thrashed by the Judiciary

Author's Note: Interestingly, it so sounds that while conveying the probable cause of the vote swing, even I caused some communal divide. But, that is not what I intended to.

SC Encroachment on Traditions

I am actually dazed at the way some NGOs and then the activists act against the Indian Traditions, whereas they do hell lot of marketing of western culture to prompt Indian Youth to bank on Western Culture.  Consider the way these Liberal Activists just stand in support of Valentines Day, Rose Day, Friendship Day etc when the western world isn't sure why to celebrate those days.  Isn't that a strange case that most of the western celebrations are based on the lowly values carried with them and no logical base other than strong marketing by certain set of companies?

More so, with the recent turn of events, it has come out to be a big blow to some of the Indian traditions specifically with these rights activists leading to the doors of SC and getting verdict in their favor.  They were successful in getting ban on #Jallikattu in Taminadu, Reduce the height for Dahi Handi events and may be a few others.  They are even eyeing on getting a ban on may be crackers during Diwali and may be promote Wax candles than earthen lamps.  Well, isn't that strange that both fire-crackers and earthen lamps production help many families run their livelihood.  It is pretty much a foul attempt to let on Vehicular and Industrial pollution ruin our lungs and our health on the name of industrialization round the year and then seek ban on crackers that was used only for 5 days.  It indeed is the irony of the case that puts me in dilemma on how a oil based earthen lamp causes more pollution than a wax lamp, when the oil based earthen lamp is more environmentally friendly than the wax lamp; in both cases be when it burns v/s when it is to be disposed.

There are may reasons where these so called activists stand up on certain ill attempted education with certainly NO base and logic.  They use some Photoshopped images with their articles with no base and with no legitimate proof on what they say; in-effect there is none actually. The logic and the words used by them simply make me laugh at their naive attempt to serve the purpose of their masters.

Specifically coming to the #Jallikattu, it is a display of row power and highlight of the cattle breeding industry. This is something that aligns with the overall Cattle Industry and trade that keeps local healthy breeds in shape with regular rotation. This tradition has a scientific base of rotation to avoid inbreeding and ensure continuity of healthy cattle raising.  A ban on this also calls for a ban on Pushkar Mela, the largest Cattle show / market on this planet (Yeah doesn't sound logical; yeah because it indeed is a illogical statement).  However, these activists would come in support of Pushkar mela (may be not) siting that it is a Cattle Market not a celebration.  However, if they ever stood against Pushkar Mela, they would have to bow down because that wouldn't be possible for them to sustain against in SC with their illogical demands.  They succeeded in case of #Jallikattu because they could produce some gory Photoshoped images and the justice bench of SC didn't do any fact check.

Now coming to the role of SC in these judgements that delivered nothing but a blow to Indian traditions, I am appalled at the way they were even considered.  SC could have defined certain conditions to be met for these traditional sports rather than banning them outright.  Somewhere they played in the hands of these activists supporting the ulterior motive of some western manipulators.  SC could have actually looked at the Tomatilo Festival of Spain that #Peta like organizations couldn't ban.  More so, #Peta like organizations work as typical marketing companies for promoting certain vested interests of certain organizations.  They live on double standards where killing the animals to eat meat is fine for them, but killing the same animal to get leather for shoes, jackets and belts is wrong.

I would actually call for a fact check by SC to ensure that they understand the true essence of the Traditional Indian sports before passing a judgement. They need to go out their to first witness the reality rather than passing a judgement on certain gory images and idiotic logic by the #Peta like marketing organizations.SC should stop encroaching  with traditions specifically when they do not step in with other religious traditions. Just because an average Indian (or do I still need to specify HINDU) has a higher degree of patience, doesn't mean that other religions get liberty to do things on their whims and fancies for their festivals with even prayers broadcasted through loudspeakers; and the hindus' keep facing bans after bans that serve the ulterior motive of some organizations to eradicate Hinduism from this planet.....

Does that Ring Bell with SC?? and with those jokers acting to be activists??

Demonetization - Boon or Bane

As the world is getting ready for the end of yet another year, it so seems that an average Indian is awaiting the end of nightmare as created by the Demonetization drive by the Government lead by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. From November 9, 2016 till date it doesn't seem that the country has been provided any scope to breath afresh for the queues and the fights for the wait to have own money exchanged to valid denomination.

The biggest question that the critics are posing for the GOI are -
  1. Did Prime Minister ever consult anybody before declaring the demonetization drive to invalidate Rs. 500 and Rs. 100o denominations?
  2. Did Prime Minister take a decision too much in haste or was it deliberate to cause the panic in the country? Apparently some 55 or 60 deaths have been linked to this demonetization drive
  3. Did Prime Minister over looked the Constitution of India while taking the bold move? Thus voiding the Right to Property and similar other rights?
  4. Did Prime Minister ought to have discussion with the opposition and should he have moved by passing a motion in the Parliament to ensure every law maker would have been informed?
Though the list may go on and on and on, these are some of the more so common question that need to be discussed to decide if the step to Demonetization is Boon or Bane for the country as a whole. Oh well, I am deliberately skipping the points on controlling Black Money and Corruption, because I feel that the trait that we inherited from our rulers for ages, would not end with this one time drive unless there is a 360º approach to curb the Hawala, Gold, Property and other means of hoarding (Hiding) Black Money.

So coming back to the 4 questions listed above, now let's take a closure look at them one by one in chronological order -

  1. It is for sure that there was a group of few senior and young officers including economists who were involved in the overall decision making process. So the decision to me seems as well thought off and well discussed. Though it seems to have failed miserably when the Risk Evaluation would have been done where the core group missed evaluating the honesty of Bank Employees and the ATM refill Organizations. That appeared to have misfired and caught the GOI on Back foot. Rating - Proves to be Bane:
  2. Prime Minister should have taken the decision to bring the execution with a shocker and without giving time to the targeted people much time to react. However, the communication that went down the line to the masses wasn't handled well and the overall execution also failed to create that long term public interest in the outcome. Though the public sentiment is in favor while they talk in open, but the overall sentiment in closed circles is not in favor and the pain is quite visible for the common bread earner. Rating - Neither Proves to be Boon nor Bane
  3. Regarding the anti-constitutional decision, I would stand by and wait for the decision by the Supreme Court of India since this particular question is being evaluated by the bench. However, I am not sure whether Demonetization can be called as hampering Right to Property. Rating - Doesn't qualify to address Boon or Bane
  4. If Prime Minister would have had moved through Parliament, then the biggest motive of Demonetization drive would have been lost. The millions of unaccounted cash that has now made its way to the Banking channels would have disappeared and the culprits would not have been reported to the law as they are at this time. The mechanism to go with that surprise really helped GOI. Rating - Proves to be Boon
So when we look at the 4 questions, then the Overall decision provides some 50:50 results. The major point that would prove its worth is the overall impact it would have on the economy in a longer run. The longer run here would be counted for at least 2 years from now. That would be just the right time for the next general elections.

As for the immediate results, we would soon see it early next year with the results of elections in UP and Punjab. Though the by-election and municipal elections have been voted in favor of the ruling party - BJP and its coalition partners, the acid test would specifically be the election results in UP.

So, Demonetization whether is a Boon or Bane is something that totally would depend on the overall perspective with which it is presented or dissected. We know that the SOLD media would create all the hue and cry to oppose the GOI, but then we need to be wise to actually understand the truth and the actual effect rather than what we see or hear on superficial level.

Growing up with Age

We all certainly grow up in age, but that also results in us growing up on ego and attitude.  There is no harm to have ego and attitude, but that needs to be in the right place, not everywhere and not with everyone.  It is important and while we grow in age, we also come to age and accept the politeness and courtesy as demanded by the world.  Indeed, the world would neither accept our ego nor would it honor our attitude, if both were in wrong place, for the wrong reason and with wrong timing.

Having attitude is indeed a good thing if we are able to control the expression and aggression associated and ensure that the attitude is put to right use at the right time and to achieve the right results.  It is always suggested to ensure that our attitude doesn't rise to our head and guide us on the path of self destruction.

With respect to ego, well everyone has ego, some conquer it and many lose out to it.  those who conquer ego come out as shining and successful in their life.  They might at times get offended, get hurt and get bowed down, but in the end it is they, who we call victorious.  For those who get conquered by ego, they bite the dust down the lane of life and are always out there to insult and hut others. Ego is once again somewhere related to respect, so in my view, where there is respect & self respect, there is no ego and where there is ego, there is no respect.  So we do have to conquer our ego for the purpose of being respected, being successful and be victorious in our lives.

However, it is important to also ensure that Ego should not die and the Attitude should not vanish, they are important for our survival.  A right mix would always help in defining our persona and character to get there, where we want or where we desire to be.
