Truth Hurts - Gabbar is Back

"Gabbar is Back" highlighted some of the Graft practices prevalent in the Medical Business (please do read it as a Business as I do not want to relate it with Medical Profession).  The once too honored and respected profession across the world has become a Business that is supposed to be fleecing us of our money.  Today the Medical Business has actually spread across and has also spread its wings touching other business like tourism with a new terminology being referred as "Medical Tourism" 

In the movie, they have shown how the hospital receives a dead guy as the patient and then charges the family of the money for treatment. Treating a dead one.  Now, that may be an extreme case, but doesn't say it is not something that happens in the reality.  We sure would never hear about such a case in the real life for such cases would not be ever revealed in the public or to the media.  This certainly doesn't seem to be the "Wishful Imagination" of the writers of the movie. Am sure they would have written this scene based on some real life experience they might have heard from someone.

Interesting point and turn out now is the Indian Medical Association - the Apex body of Medical Professionals in India has decided to object the scene and had wanted to have the scene deleted from the movie. However, when things didn't turn out in their favor, they have decided to serve legal notices to Sanjay Leela Bhansali as well as Akshay Kumar.

Now at this point in time, I am actually surprised as to why didn't IMA wake up in 2002 when the original Tamil film Ramana, the details can be accessed on - Wikipedia Page for Ramana Movie. the specific para is highlighted in the Screen Shot below -

Also, when I searched on google with the search string "ramana movie dead treated", what I saw was really shocking. It so seems that there was some case in Tamil Nadu referred as Koppiyam - Thanjavur Private Hospital Dead Body Treatment | Ramana Film Style.  The video no longer exists there as it seems to have been taken down from You-Tube.  The screen shot below reveals the search results on google - 

It raises many other questions and requires a lost of answering from IMA to have raised their voice at a time when we all are fighting against corruption.  there have been way too many cases that we may have witnesses where doctors suggest all sorts of tests even when they are not required.  There are many malpractices in the Medical Business and there are way too many corrupts getting benefited by the trade.  

To this effect, I feel that the IMA needs to focus on introspection and ensure that the medical practitioner treat the profession in the way it should be rather than converting it into a Business.

Interstellar - Movie Review

Interstellar is a very intelligent science fiction that connects the dots between Gravity, Time, Astro-Science, Physics et al and weaves a pretty good concept for saving the mankind in future when the pollution and Nitrogen levels would reach unbearable levels. 

The whole set of sequences in individual capacity have been very neatly done, but the director and the editor failed to keep the movie tight between these sequences. 

The movie opens with a very farm like location owned by an agriculture enthusiast who has been a fighter pilot and an engineer and progresses on with him finding this ultra secret Area 59 sort location of Nasa and then him getting selected to lead a mission to find another habitat for human kind.  But I felt that the director spent a bit too long a time to build the base that made movie a bit too slow in the first hour.

Post that a lot of plot and continuity was lost in the discussions that were stretched a bit too long than required and at times the characters breaking out due to emotional stress. I felt this was being a bit too much.  

Another aspect that I felt should have been taken care of a bit more carefully was the aging of characters on earth and the aging of characters on the space mission.  As from the way I understood, it would take them 14 months for touching the orbit of Saturn from where they get on to the far side of the galaxy / universe, and spending 1 hour on a planet that side would be around 7 years back on earth (relativity and time equation). But I failed to understand how Cooper's age went of to touch 124 while returning to earth and then how come his daughters' age went off way high that she was under medical supervision.  It was a bit too far fetched point that I have not been able to weave.  Per my calculation, the total time that passed from the time the mission started to the time when these guys were returning would have been anything around 50 years or so, meaning Cooper should have been close to 90 or maximum 100 and his daughter should have been at the max be in her 60s.  

Overall a movie that has a very good story and script, but the Director and the editor failed to impress with their work.

The Movie Haider might get rave reviews, but has many technical glitches including lack of research by the Director as well as the Production House.  One can't simply adopt a novel and make a mvie without evaluating the one sided sob story by someone.  The Kashmir or Mid 90s and the Dance of death by terrorists is being hidden behind the magnificent portrayal of Indian Army as the villains.  The truth is something different and out there for us to explore!!! Yes because its hidden beneath the truth as being showcased by NGOs and the News Channels.....on the name of Human rights and supporting the minorities...............

So many reviews about movie Haider have been written on facebook by Kashmiris that a record of sorts has been created! 

I generally find film reviews grossly misleading. My go-to person for many things including movies is my all knowing son Billbichroo! 

Last time I read a local UK review of A movie called Slumdog millionaire was a huge mistake. I was sold it as the Feel Good Movie of the Decade ! 

It was anything but feel good for me! A grinding display of poverty is not my idea of feel Good feeling! 

So I asked my son yesterday, -Bil, this Haider movie is based on Hamlet. What happens in Hamlet? 

Everyone dies in the end Papa !

Few years back in February I had gone to India & was looking for a book called Our Moon has blood clots by Rahul Pandita . This novel was autobiographical account of Hindus - Kashmiri Pandit (KPs) set during the turbulent times of 1989/1990 when the whole community of 300,000 odd KPs had to run for their lives from the violence unleashed by Islamic Terrorists , trained & financed by Pakistan, our eternal villain! 

Around the time , Rahul Kaul my childhood friend , who u saw swimming in Kashmir floods in a picture I posted few weeks ago , invited me to his apartment in Gurgaon for a dinner. 

During Kashmiri dinner n Single Malt jugglebandi I mentioned this book & Rahul said Vivek it is the KP side of story & Muslim side has been already been written by one Basharat Peer called Curfewed Nights ! 

Basharat Peer happens to be the co- writer of movie Haider set in Kashmir of 1995 when Basharat was still a teenager in Kashmir & Islamic terrorists ruled the valley by fear of AK 47 ! 

So what was Kashmir of 1995 like ? . Let me jog your memory with explanations for my overseas non Indian friends as well. 

Tourism in Kashmir collapsed following the 1995 abduction of six western men, including two Britons, Keith Mangan and Paul Wells, who were taken hostage by Islamist group Al-Faran. One American tourist escaped, but a Norwegian, Hans Christian Ostrø, was beheaded. How the other four died is uncertain to this day. 

The whole town of Charar-i-sharief got burnt down in 1995 , including its famous 650 year old Shrine , during the fierce encounter between Indian troops and Jehadi terrorists . 

To counter the Islamic Jehadis & their dreadful violence India raised a special force called Rashtriya Rifles who were soldiers & officers on secondment ( deputation) from Indian Army. 

They were raised to fight present day ISIS type Jehadis who took no prisoners 

They hit upon a great plan . Captain Mishra ( name changed) thought if a counter insurgency movement could be led by surrendered or compromised Ex-Jehadis some semblance of law & order could be restored in Kashmir which was run by the diktats of so called Mujahedeens & the like ! 

In summary they employed ex-thieves to catch old battle hardened thieves. 

India became increasingly dependent on the vigilantes...Groups such as the Jammu and Kashmir Ikhwan...drawn from some 3,000 former Kashmiri jehadis who surrendered to the Government. Paid monthly salaries of up to 12,000 rupees ($200), and allowed to keep their weapons, they acted as informers, leading soldiers to militant hideouts. ( as is seen in the opening scenes of Hiader the movie ) 

The Rashtriya Rifles (RR) army became the surrendered militants' main income source,---

The Ikhwanis thus became the eyes and ears of the army, identifying terrorists among the people of Kashmir during 'crack down' of a particular area as shown in the movie when the Surgeon is identified by the masked surrendered Ikwani ! 

In many cases personal scores were settled & innocent people were identified by these Ikwanis to RR for interrogation in a Special place near Oberoi Palace Hotel called Papa 2 , called Mama 2 in the movie. We were pointed to this building , now a state guest house by our Shikarawala / boatman who was given away to RR by his cousin because of previous family feud ! Fortunately for Gani his loyal mother wept bitterly in front of Army commander who trusted her story & released Gani to safety ! Gani is still my mobile phone friend ! An honest Shikarawala who does not even take a tip !

Those were very difficult & testing times for many innocent Kashmiris & Indian Army. 

It is to the credit of Indian Army that the back bone of Jehadi led Azadi ( freedom) movement was broken as the Jehadis had local population led to believe that Azadi was round the corner. 

Around the same time many Jehadis made lot of money from extortion & kidnappings etc amongst the Kashmiri people & many Kashmiri Muslims also migrated out , truth be told ! 

Movies like Haider are very easy to see but difficult to understand if you don't know the background & the setting like a Harry Potter film where reading the novel before hand makes it easier to understand the characters & the storyline 

Haider will thus mean different to different viewers depending on their level of understanding of the Kashmir situation c. Mid 1990's 

The story of Haider movie is pretty straightforward. 

Haider has been sent away to Aligarh for education to escape recruitment by Jehadis as was common those days . His surgeon dad gets a dreaded Jehadi as a patient with appendicitis. Doctor operates on him at his own home & he is supergrassed ( see below) by his own brother who lusts for his wife ! 

The Surgeon is immediately identified by a Ikwani ex Jehadi in a Crack down parade & bundled out by Security forces. 

Hidden militants in his house start firing on the Security forces who blow up his home by a shoulder fired rocket. 

Meanwhile Haider returns after his education & finds his mom in a room with her brother- in -law singing songs to each other. Haider does not like this situation & wants to know & find his missing father. 

Heroine of the film , a police bigwigs daughter , tries to help him & finds a Militant ready to help Haider. This militant has been in torture chambers & interrogation cell with his dad. 

Both are thrown in Jhelum river to drown. Surgeon drowns but the dreaded militant escapes to tell Haider that his uncle was the informer of his dad. 

Haider tells his mom about his dads death & subsequently his uncle proposes marriage amongst few songs & drama !

The movie climaxes in death of Heroine . Uncle , & other baddies being killed by mom who blows herself n others as a suicide bomber ! 

In the closing titles of the film , Indian Army is thanked for their role in helping Kashmiris in recent floods , as an afterthought after painting them as real villains in the movie ! 

Was the Producer or Director guilty of something ! 

I am really surprised that this movie got passed the scissors of Indian Film Censor board ! 

You castigate your own security forces in worst possible way , when they were only trying to wrestle back Kashmir for India from the violence unleashed by Jehadis & still censor board finds the movie fit for U certification -- they must be busy eating free Samosas n chutney rather than grasp the obvious message of the movie ! 

Movie does not show Jehadis as saints but does paint Security forces as villains. 

I have not mentioned about the omission of any reference to Kashmiri Pandits in the movie who by 1995 were no where to be seen in the valley , having been ethnically cleansed by 1990 ! 

As with Curfewed Nights , Basharat Peer has been leader of the pack by co-writing this movie which will surely be followed by a Kashmiri Pandit all singing all dancing feature film penned by a Rahul Pandita amongst us !

Shame on Bollywood for Lack of Research

Bollywood has time and again proved to be a set of shameless and valueless creatures.  Though I have friends in there, but I still feel that among some protagonists, there is a huge bunch of Jokers around who have no respect for the society or for the culture.  My this opinion has been reaffirmed by the makers of movie "Haider". 

I used to be really impressed with the way Shahid Kapoor has acted in the movie and was awaiting for the movie, until today.  So what happened today made me boycott this movie completely and I am not going to watch that unless certain section of the movie are censored or removed.  These sections are those which portray the Martand Sun Temple as the seat of Devil.  This is a huge mockery of our culture, our tradition and our religious sentiments.  They could have made use of at least some basic research that wouldn't have taken much time as the Internet is full of information on Martand Sun Temple.  In fact in a brief 2 minutes I stumbled on so much information that I had to think what to read what not to read.  And I had to take time to summarize the overall content. 

About Martand Sun Temple: - Built in 500 CE Martand Sun Temple is located near Anantnag in Kashmir and was dedicated to the God Surya. Today the ruins of the temple still lie there between the beauty of nature and with hardly many living around in the area.  The temple displayed a great architectural design highlighting the wonders our then architects used to create. It holds a very high place in the world's great architectural designs.  The temple presents to us the most memorable and beautiful work done during the regime of King Liladitya of Surya Dynasty. Though much of the other ruins of that time are not to be found around, the remnants of big Martand temple exemplify the glory and the skills that were invested to build it.

I would let your wisdom work and decide if you want to let this portrayal insult our culture and the tradition. Just think if it were one of other religious places, by now we would have been suffering from Riots.....

For me I am not in to let this happen..So What's your take???

Singham Returns v/s HJS

With "Singham Retuns" Ajay Devgana and Rohit Shetty once again came together to provide with a Full Entertainer with power packed Script. The Story revolves around the concept of Black Money, Politics and the So Called Priest who use to be a street side goon.

The Movie has already garnered interest from the time the trailer was released and the most interesting part of the whole drama that unfolded was request by Hindu Jagriti Manch (HJS) to ban the movie.  HJS sighted the reason that the Movie depicts Hindu Priest in the Bad light.

Now, my question to HJS is - Shouldn't they be looking at the way street side goons step towards Dharma Darbar and become Dharm Guru to indulge in Money Laundering etc?  We have had many cases in real life where these Dharm Gurus have crossed the limits of Dharm and indulged in Adharm. Fe of the Cases can be highlighted - 

1. Asaram and his son involved in molesting female disciples
2. Murder of Priest in one of the Rich South Indian Temple
3. Particular Swami involved in disappearance of his Guru and then becoming the front end spoc of a multimillion medicinal trade 
4. Dharm Guru indulged in terror acts with chargesheeted in cases of bomb blast...

If we look at the above cases and many such other cases, we would find that malice does occur in the name of Divinity and we can't ignore it.  What the depiction of Dharm Guru in Singham returns is nothing but depiction of the Dark Reality with Dramatization added.  What HJS is required to look at is the intended malice by these Dharm Gurus who's tricks of trade to hide behind Dharm is are not justified.

Singham Returns just highlights the harsh reality in Dramatized manner, but what should we be looking at?  the intended message to save the Dharm and Society from such goons (भेड़ की खाल में भेडिये) or should we try to stop the message from propogating to the mass by trying to depict that Dharm is insulted?

I would choose the first one and will support the movie that is trying to drive home a message against Black Money as well as the Malice in Dharm....

Sincere Request to HJS to relook at the case and try to understand the reality

The Unknown Tiger - The Black Tiger

It is very interesting for our Nation to have been awaiting the flick "Ek Tha Tiger". Interesting because the nation has had so many real tigers who need to be praised for their bravery and their courage to have laid their lives for the Nation, for Mother India. Today, when the nation is headed to celebrate 65 yrs of Independence, I feel that there are many Unsung Heroes and known Tigers who need to be Saluted and whose families need to be honored on this Day when India got its freedom 65 years back.

One such Tiger or the National Hero was Ravindra Kaushik, who was born in Sri Ganganagar, Rajasthan in 1952 to an ex Air Force personnel Mr. J M Kaushik.  He served the nation till his last breath in 2001.  He is one of the real hero who the nation needs to recognize for his bravery.  The unfortunate son whose hard work though helped the nation in many ways, but was never recognized.  Whose glory should have touched the height of the Skies above, but were rather burried deep in the politics.

Ravindra Kaushik, was one of those who sacrificed their youth, their family life and their own interest in the interest of the nation.  He, who was known for his "Mono-Acting" and Mimicry Skills, left everything for serving the nation.  In 1971, he joined RAW (Research and Analysis Wing), India's External Intelligence Agency and underwent rigorous training for two years.  During the training, he learnt Urdu, given religious education, taught about the topography of Pakistan and then to show him as a Muslim "Sunnat" was performed on him.

Ravindra was then sent to Pakistan with an identity as a resident of Islamabad and he enrolled in Karanchi University for a Law Degree. After completing is Law Degree, he could successfully join Pakistan's Army as a commissioned officer and went up being promoted to the rank of 'Major'.

Ravindra accomplished a major operation in 1979 while serving as the Officer in Pakistan's Army & for that success that helped India, he was awarded with the title of "Black Tiger".   But who would know that later the same title would break open his identity as it happened in 1983.  The unfortunate incident when another Indian operative was captured in Pakistan and was interrogated for his motives. That operative broke and revealed the identity of The Black Tiger.  Ravindra was arrested and tortured to reveal information about the Indian Army. But the Tiger that he was, he never succumbed to any pressure and finally in 1985 he was sentenced to death which subsequently was converted to life imprisonment in 1990.  Ravindra spent almost 18 years in Pakistan's jail and finally succumbed to prolonged illness on November 21, 2001.  His body was Buried behind the jail in Mianwali.

The unfortunate Son of Soil could have been brought back, but he was not.  The Govt led by Indira Gandhi denied his Indian Citizenship and his existence as The Citizen of India and RAW operative are said to have been erased from the Govt and RAW files.  The once Black Tiger went down the history of Indian Intelligence Operations as an Unknown Tiger till the controversy on the movie "Ek Tha Tiger" broke with his nephew Vikram Vashisth slamming a Legal Notice to the Producer of the Movie to give Due Credits to the late Hero.

The Producers and the Director Kabir Khan have vehemently denied any connection between the movie and the Real Life Hero Ravindra Kaushik.  Whatever is the truth of the movie and the script, we as the fellow citizens must rise and salute the Black Tiger as well as the other Unsung Hero of the Nation. Today if we are enjoying our freedom and celebrating the Independence, we owe them a tribute and the respect for their sacrifices.

Bodyguard - The Disasterous Movie

After a long time, I was out to watch a movie, a much hyped movie Bodyguard starring Salman Khan and Kareena Kapoor.  With the start of the movie, I felt as if its a waste of time and money. But I thought may be its too soon to decide.  However, not even during the whole movie did I feel like changing my opinion that was formed with the opening of the Movie.

Right from the start till end, I could not find the director's grip on the story and the dialogues.  The story that was supposed to be a Love Story, was lost in the Action scenes. With too much unrealistic action sequences including the stunt of jumping out from one local train to land on the roof of another and then from there Landing on the bridge above.  

Dialogues were also something that seemed to be written by someone with a weak command over Hindi Language as the Grammer in the Language was really a disaster.  There were many instances where one would related the dialogues and the dialogue delivery to the South Indian Movies Dubbed in Hindi.

Character-wise the characters that stood out was of Salman Khan, who did justice to almost each frame he was in.  Raj Babbar was seen after a long time as Sartaj Singh, and he also stood tall in his role.  Kareena Kapoor as Divya was just about average.  Aditya Pancholi did made an impact in the negative role and may be this may do some good to his career.  Rest all characters were either average or so.  But the worst character in the movie was of Tsunami Singh, who was supposed to be a comic character, but just ruined the movie totally coupled with Bad Dialogue Delivery and poor acting.

Overall, other than Salman Khan and Raj Babbar, nothing else stands out in the movie.

Discussion on the Last Scene of Laga Chunari Mein Daag

Of the recently watched movies, I had liked Laga Chunari Mein Daag the most. Speciality of the movie was the way the subject matter was handled and the way the overall relationship management was portrayed. Though it depicted the changing mindset of the Indian Society but some out there might opine that it was still by far largely unacceptable ending to the movie. People who have seen the movie have opined either ways, but the harsh opinion is that this looks good only in the movies and not in the real life.

Inn one such conversation the other day, me and another friend of mine strongly opposed the points of non-realism. We opined that the end of the movie was very much practical and very much positive. When we look at the past of the Indian society dating back to 10^th Century or earlier, we find that there had been lot more such cases. The base of Indian society was OPEN CULTURE and it still is. Its only after a certain invasion and post infusion of foreign culture that the social norms changed.

Even today we find several cases in real life and not just in reel life for the pairs getting hooked on irrespective of each others background. If someone comes out and says that for a guy it is accepted, but the background of the girl ahs to be clean and that she has to be one man girl, then I strongly oppose it. Isn’t it being a hypocrite? The guy can have numerous physical relations prior to or even after the marriage but girl has to be virgin at the time of marriage. Now this is something too far and too high an expectation. Why should one expect something from others when one can’t give the same to others?

Jab We Met - Technical Gliches

Just happened to watch Shahid and Kareena Kapur starer Jab We Met. A really good movie when it comes to entertainment and after the debacle of Sanwariya J. But my entire taste for the movie was spoiled because of the Pathetic technical mistakes and the way city of Ratlam has been presented. Yes the city is not as it was presented in the movie, not even 10% of it. The way it has been presented in the movie really ruins the image of Ratlam as one of the most literate city of Madhya Pradesh and as one of the Biggest Western Railway Divisions.

Let me start from the point they show the shoddy entrance with a board of Ratlam Junction put over it. Well that’s certainly not the way Ratlam’s real station, that’s just a very Pathetic imagination of some really stinking person who never did any research about the entrance to the Ratlam station or the Station itself. Then certainly one DOES NOT See those cheap sorts of prostitutes standing in front of the Railway station and certainly even at night 1 or 2 the Station area is pretty safe for any female even if she is alone. I was really shocked for the way the script represented the cheap acts for Ratlam station.

Moreover the first and foremost technical fault of the movie – A TRAIN LEAVING FROM CHATRAPATI SHIVAJI TERMINAL IN MUMBAI TO NEW DELHI DOES NOT GO THROUGH THE RATLAM AND KOTA. And as presented in the Movie, The Punjab Mail certainly DOES NOT CROSS Ratlam at all, it rather takes, Kalyan – Nashik – Khandwa – Itarsi – Bhopal – Agra route to New Delhi.

I mean the script writer hardly put any research in place on this side and well so did the lapse on the side of the Director and the rest of the technical team involved. Its really a gruesome mistake.

The movie certainly creates a maligned image of Ratlam, but Ratlam is not such a Shoddy city, it is very much a nice and developing city that has much better environment prevailing.

Review Rating – 2 out of 5

Recommendation – In case You have nothing to do and want to kill your time and have a laugh riot on the poor script and really poor sense of direction, please go ahead and watch this movie

Well as stated above, I happened to watch the movie as there was nothing to do on my part and was scolded a lot for not arranging the tickets in past two days. (un)luckily we got the tickets when we visited that theatre and my friend accompanying was more than ecstatic to watch the movie. I had already lost the interest in the movie as the Promos of the movie had hinted towards the INSPIRATION from a la Moulin Rouge. Well Moulin Rouge is a Musical Movie with lot of backdrop and lot of immense efforts been put up on the script and the direction. But Sanwariya loses out on both the fronts.

Well as far as the Sets are concerned, well they are HIGHLY INSPIRED by Moulin Rouge and also some part of script – when it comes to the role of Gulabji played by Rani Mukharjee. But the whole story and script goes for a BIG TOSS every now and then. Though the new comers do show a bit of their talent and Rani Mukharjee is as usually awesome in the entire movie, but there are far too many loose points in the movie.

Yeah one thing that is typical characteristic or trade mark of a Sanjay Leela Bhansali movie does shine in the entire movie, and that is the Glamour that is poured into the sets and the dresses of the characters. The another interesting part of the movie is the usage of RK logo and that way this movie can be called as a RE-launch pad of the famous RK Banner.

But overall if you are looking for a typical Hindi Formula movie, well there is nothing except melodrama in it. If you are going with a mindset to watch a movie that is for the love of two youngsters, there is nothing. And if you are going in to see Love triangle/quadrangle and family melodrama well that also is not there. Hence it is not for those regular movie goers.

Well yes in case you if you would have seen Moulin Rouge and you liked it, then well go ahead and watch it (still you wouldn’t like this movie).
